| Nicholas Kekic was
given the rare gift of being born into a glass making family. His
grandfather worked in an industrial glass making facility at General
Electric for forty-two years. This wealth of technical knowledge and years
of experience was gifted to Nick's father, an artist, craftsman and teacher
who used it to help start the glass program at Rochester Institute of
Technology during the sixties studio art glass movement in America. Growing up in this environment, Nick was surrounded by hand-made objects and people who took care and effort in the creative process, finding value in these things and the life of ideas and creativity they can generate. He believes that these glass objects, because of their hand-made qualities, creative expression, and quality of craftsmanship add warmth, color and a human touch to our lives in an increasingly mechanized and industrialized world. He finds a great value in their creation and in their appreciation. Working in glass on his own since 1995 and now living in Chester, VT, Nick has built a home and Studio with his wife, Tamasin Ballou Kekic, on land that has been in her family for generations. It is here where they've built a space for him to explore and develop new techniques and design ideas while working to market and promote his function art glass. |
